  Why dont U.S. JW's Celelbrate Thanksgiving

  i remeber the old young people ask book had an entry that explained why each holiday was bad.

  i was searching for it today on jw.org and it looks like the new young people ask has ommited that section.

  im just curiouse why jw's dont celebrate the holiday..

  i submitted a letter to the local k hall, explaining that i no longer believe my baptism as a jw is valid, based on my current bible knowlege.

  and i wish to be no longer considered a baptised [in this organization], jw, but simply a christain who studies the bible.. and then would continue to attend meetings?.

  they couldnt prevent me, its open to the public.. .

  Excusing the JW Child Abuse Scandals.

  my question is prompted by a post of terry's on his own thread about a parable for jw's.

  in that post terry shows how the standard jw response to any report of sex abuse within the borg is to use the "no true scotsman" fallacy.. i.e "he was not a real jw".. my question is for some time in the future, when the true, horrendous, extent of abuse within the borg is public knowledge, and the cognitive dissonance grows for jw's about this being endemic in "god's organization" for so long, how will they excuse it, or explain it, then ?.

  how will they push away the obvious conclusion that jehovah must have approved of this going on, or he would have rectified it, not left it to the courts to pick up the broken pieces years later ?.

  The rape and murder of JW Whitney Heichel by Jonathon Holt created the very same reactions when JW's were informed that the rapist/murderer was indeed a "brother" in her congregation. I had people tell me to my face "well, he clearly wasn't a real Jehovah's Witness".

  I despise the UN and government in general. However, I would be for an international law being passed and enforced that no child under the age of 18 can dedicate and baptize themselves to ANYTHING!!!!!!

  an elderly driver crashed into a park bench in mandurah, western australia today where 3 jws were sitting.

  they had set up their jw cart and their literature was also strewn across the ground.. one of the jws was seriously injured with head injuries.. what a freak accident this is.. .

  Yea, taking any joy in people getting injured is not right. But these types of accidents (the recent bus crash in Central America is another example) are fair game to ridicule the JW-zombie types who claim all this phony "holy spirit protections and blessings".

  Pointing this phony holy spirit protection and blessings stuff out to the average Jdub is one of the easier ways to either get someone thinking critically, or...... get them so confused and flustered that it is then entertaining to watch them contort themselves into defending their phony beliefs. I call that a win-win!

  All the animal sacrifice accounts in the Bible have always made me uncomfortable. I do not think I ever bought into the idea that this was instructed by God. I kind of always knew this was just screwed up humans doing screwed up things in the name of God as has always been done.

  Seeing the Hindu slaughter is sickening. Not so much because all those animals died (as was mentioned, hundreds of millions/billions of animals are slaughtered every year around the world for meat consumption), but because of the brutality of it and the lack of compassion for a humane slaughter. The wastefulness. The bloodlust.

  Industrial animal farming is also very brutal. They treat animals as protein blobs and their lives are miserable. It does not have to be this way. There are ways to raise and slaughter animals that are very humane. I am very familiar with these types of humane practices.

  Back to the OP, yes, the similarities between the animal sacrifices of the OT and the brutal Hindu carnage cannot be ignored. It is reprehensible.

  Let us not forget, we are all *supposed to be* worshipping a God that instructed Abraham to sacrifice his son, which he was willing to do. I, for one, never ever believed that story in the Bible. I think it is bullshit and no loving God would ever test "His friend" like that. Just another wacked out story in the Bible.

  Because US JW's are phonies. There is nothing about Thanksgiving that should offend even the most self-righteous of JW's. Yet, they still dance around the holiday and "officially" do not participate (even though, as so many have already noted, almost everyone eats a turkey dinner during the holiday weekend).

  A reasonable person would *think* that JW's would grasp onto such a family-oriented and good holiday that has no religious or pagan origins. You'd think this could be the one holiday that would be encouraged. But no. As usual, the GB and JW culture has to be killjoys and stick out like sore thumbs because that gets more attention and brownie points with F&DS.

  I am very proud to say that I never participated in "field service" (that term sounds like we are draft animals out plowing a field to get our meager portion of hay) that was on any of the holidays. I knew from a very early age that doing that was not only rude but it had the likelihood of doing much more damage than good, even when I believed that we had a positive message that could help people.

  On the other hand, I have uber-zealous (aka- obnoxious), self-righteous JW relatives that were no less than THRILLED to go out knocking on doors on the holidays. They get off on the tension and false feeling of superiority as if they are so righteous that they are like the Apostle Paul or something like that. Willing to put themselves in scorn's way for their god.

  All I can say when I think of my obnoxious relatives and other Jdub-zombies is....... THANKS!!! Thanks for being part of the reason I finally woke up to this horse feces religion.

  Money, money, money........ I am not sure which is the more obvious sign of a corrupt religion, the pedophile cover ups or the endless pleading for money.

  On Saturday, instead of attending the 3 hour "Zone Visit", I think I will watch The Godfather or Goodfellas. You know, to spend my time with people who have morals and values.
